The United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Denmark are developing their own PNR systems and wish to obtain the broadest possible European legal framework. The systems already in place (UK) or being developed (France, where it will be ready in September 2015, as well as Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Italy and Sweden)…
Outdated budget?
The Commission has not carried out any further impact assessments since 2011 and the figures given are estimates from 2006. According to the executive, the EU budget has to absorb nearly €614,833,187, in other words, €123 million per year over five years. Airlines estimate the cost of data transmission, such as maintenance and staff costs, at nearly €12 million. If they pass the cost of the measure on to passengers, airline tickets will rise by ten eurocents, says the Commission, a "negligible" increase. Over the last four years, though, the cost of IT equipment and the number of flights concerned by the measure have evolved considerably.
