The European data protection framework must be exempted from the future trade agreement with the United States, says the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE). In an opinion adopted on 31 March, MEPs ask the European Commission to incorporate in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) a "horizontal clause" that "fully exempts the existing and future EU legal framework on the protection of personal data from the agreement, without exception".
