While populist parties continue to promote the idea that Europe is becoming a ‘sieve’ – in order to back up their anti-immigration rhetoric - figures published by Eurostat on 21 November show that non-European citizens are twice as exposed to the risk of poverty and social exclusion than EU citizens are. Almost half (48.7%) of migrants over 18 years of age are at risk, according to Eurostat. In 2013, one in five non-Europeans (20.7%) was suffering from "serious material deprivation"…
