First ERC ‘starting grants’ under Horizon 2020

The European Research Council will award 485 million euro to 328 selected early-career scientists

The 328 winners of the first competition under Horizon 2020 for the European Research Council’s ‘ starting grants ’ were announced on 15 December. The grantees will receive up to €2 million each for a period of five years “to develop their ambitious high-risk, high-gain research projects”. In total, the call represents €485 million. The ERC received 3,273 applications. The main beneficiaries are institutions based in Germany (70), the UK (55), France (43) and the Netherlands (34). The ‘starting grants’…
