Serbia will implement an action plan in conjunction with the Energy Community (EnC) to unbundle the transmission activities of its state gas company Srbijagas from its supply and trading business. The move comes after Serbia had been rebuked by the EnC Secretariat for failing to adhere to the rules (acquis) on unbundling contained in the European Union’s third energy package.

Spreading EU acquis
Created in 2005, the Energy Community brings together the EU's 28 member states plus nine South-Eastern European countries (including Serbia), known as contracting parties, and four countries with observer status, one of which, Georgia, is negotiating to become a full member. The entity was created with the aim of importing the EU’s energy acquis into the neighbouring non-EU countries, thereby extending the EU’s internal energy market to regions such as the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
